Rick Freeman began his law practice as an associate with the Law Office of Joe Colbert. In 1984, he became a partner in the firm of Colbert & Freeman. He continued with the firm until 2001, when he opened his own firm – Rick Freeman, P.C. Since 1979, Rick Freeman has represented individuals and business owners and their companies in matters involving litigation or threatened litigation. He has gained a state-wide reputation as trial law expert. Rick is regularly requested to speak on various legal topics with an emphasis in the area of trial tactics and trial procedure. He has served as a mentor to younger lawyers desiring to enter the trial practice, and has also served as both teacher and judge on numerous occasions for the University of Texas School of Law Trial Tactics classes. Rick Freeman has been Board Certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization as a Personal Injury Trial Law specialist since 1986. Board Certified lawyers are considered experts in their field of specialization. To become certified, a lawyer must prove his expertise by showing his experience in the area of specialization, by recommendations from lawyers in his field as well as lawyers and judges with whom he has had trials and by passing a certification test. Fewer than 3 percent of all the attorneys in Texas are Board Certified as Personal Injury Trial Law Specialists. In addition, since 1995, Rick Freeman has been recognized as one of the top lawyers in the country in The Best Lawyers in America. He has also been selected as a Texas Super Lawyer (restricted to the top 5% of lawyers in Texas) for many years. Rick Freeman has been extensively involved in the Texas Trial Lawyers Association. The Texas Trial Lawyers Association (TTLA) is the statewide group of lawyers dedicated to the representation of individuals and business entities that have been damaged as the result of the acts of others. In addition to having been a member of the Board of Directors of TTLA since 1986, Rick Freeman has held other leadership positions in the Association. In 1994, Rick Freeman was elected president of the Association. He holds the distinction of being the youngest person ever elected president of TTLA. In addition to his extensive efforts with the Texas Trial Lawyers Association, Rick has also held positions in other law-related organizations. He has served as a member of the Texas Pattern Jury Charges committee of the State Bar of Texas and has been appointed to numerous other law-related committees. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Travis County Litigation Section for many years and served two terms as the Board's Secretary. He has also been extensively involved with the Capitol Area Trial Lawyers Association, serving as a founding member of the organization and executive committee member for a number of years. He has also served on various committees of the Travis County Bar Association over the years. Rick has been extensively involved in the community. He has served as a founding board member of Seaton Foundation, a foundation serving the interests of those with traumatic brain injuries. In addition he has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Austin Woods and Waters Club. He has also served on other committees involving the Austin and legal communities. Rick served as the General Counsel for the Travis County Sheriff's Officers Association for many years. In 1996 and again in 2001 he was recognized by the Association with the "President's Award," honoring him for his efforts on behalf of both the Association and individual deputies.
